| Have you recently lost your dachshund? |
Our hearts go out to families who have recently lost their pet to death. Human beings who have a beloved pet suffer the loss of it just as much as they do when they lose a precious family member. A dog IS a family member and the grief you feel is real and profound and very hard to bear. A person who has never lost a dear pet can not understand your despair, but we who have know well the toll it takes.
The acquisition of another doxie HONORS your first pet. It does not replace the other dog, but it is a wonderful DIVERSION from your grief. You'll think, "Hey, New Dog is just like Old Dog in this way, and far different in another way." Comparison is fascinating and it does lessen the hurt.
When I lost my first doxie on a Friday I replaced it the next Sunday.
We felt comforted and I think that that is what helps people who are confronted with the terrible emptiness that the loss of a pet brings. I've never heard anyone say, "We got another dog too soon." But I have had people say, "We would have been happier if we hadn't waited to 'get over it'". But everyone grieves differently and in their own time they decide. |

| Long-Haired Dachshunds |
| Non-shedding and NOT requiring grooming--that describes a long-haired dachshund. The glamorous and a little bit rare "long-haired dachshund" enjoys the same swell feature in requiring minimal maintenance as the smooth dachshund. It has the advantage of an under-coat to keep it warm in the winter. It does sheds its undercoat only in the spring. I have found that if I just bathe a long-hair -- lather it all up and then BRUSH AGAINST the fur, the undercoat comes out in the brush and after two or three baths the dog is set for a cool summer. The long-hair never requires a trip to the beauty salon. On the other hand, a wire-haired dachshund must be professionally trimmed and groomed (we do not sell wire-haired dachshunds). |
